Prints in edition

When a printmaker is producing an edition of prints, he is printing a uniform set of images, usually on paper but sometimes on other materials. Each of these images should have a number, written like a fraction, somewhere below the printed surface, near the title or signature. The number above the slash identifies which print it is in an edition. The number below the slash is the number of copies in the edition.
